Want your home PC (or Mac) to participate in SETI (the Search for
Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) during its idle cycles? Well your
chance is here! Following in the footsteps of such efforts of
Prime95 (a prime number search), SETI@Home is a project that uses
worldwide PC idle cycles to comb radio telescope data for signals
that appear to be produced by machines rather than natural phenomena.
The program is really easy to configure and run so if this interests
you then go for it!
